The Mother, Unearthed

When the pallid countenance of the moon glows full, a primal call issues from the dark heart of the forest. For the doomed men who hear its primordial resonance, the call is a summoning that cannot be ignored. They flee from the quiet comforts of their homes and run headlong into the woods, howling and foaming at the mouth like mad dogs. Many a brother, husband, and son have fallen prey to the call—and none have returned. Now, rumours of strange man-beasts roving through the woods have begun to creep assiduously between villages like the roots of a vile weed, “And didn’t one of ‘em look an awful lot like so-and-so from Voscri, hims what ran off during the sturgeon moon.” Nary a sacrificial offering or folk remedy has been able to temper the summoning power of the call. And like all things placed upon the great spinning wheel of this world, the moon waxes full yet again...
